I've made the switch and things seem ok. (I had a false start when it kernel panicked on install but turns out the new drive, is crap! So I went back my 18GB, always keep a backup ready).

I poked around and little noticed aterm fails to start with aterm: can't load font "k14" (I think that is missing X11 font dep), and pidgin core dumps on me. I'll explore these 2 specifically tomorrow or monday and post in GitHub.

Not sure if I should be worried. this happened after removing 0.0.5 and installing 0.0.7 RPMs on my Indigo2-Impact running 6.5.22:

Bus error (core dumped)
warning: %triggerin(gdk-pixbuf2-2.40.0-5.sgug.mips) scriptlet failed, exit status 138.
ALERT: Process gio-querymodules 2727 generated trap, but has signal 11 held or ignored.

btw, would be cool if ncftp could be included in SGUG-RPM. I often use FTP to transfer files in and out, and ncftp is way more comfortable (directory autocomplete, bookmarks etc) than basic command line ftp. I currently use the neko_ncftp-3.2.3.tardist package from rqsall.com but that one doesn't work on older mips3 machines

Here is the gdk pixbuf2 error again... ( I have added this to GitHub Issues)

It seems to be the trigger
[sgugshell root@saiph /]# gdk-pixbuf-query-loaders --update-cache
Bus error (core dumped)

Here it in action

Just reporting my update from 0.0.6 > 0.0.7 went swimmingly. The aterm issue reported by @mgtremaine has been going on since sgug started as far as I know. It's never worked on my system (octane) because of that k14 font error. I looked in to it for quite a while, found the same issue on some other Linux distros which they worked around by forcing aterm to use different fonts etc, but none of those fixes worked on my sgi so I gave up...

It has been some time since I promised to try this on an Indy, and many things have happened in-between. However, with the days much shorter and the weather much worse, I have finally been able to follow through:

Code:
challenge65 49# uname -aR
IRIX challenge65 6.5 6.5.19f 01100601 IP22
challenge65 50# hinv
CPU: MIPS R4600 Processor Chip Revision: 1.0
FPU: MIPS R4600 Floating Point Coprocessor Revision: 0.0
1 100 MHZ IP22 Processor
Main memory size: 96 Mbytes
Instruction cache size: 16 Kbytes
Data cache size: 16 Kbytes
Integral SCSI controller 0: Version WD33C93B, revision D
Disk drive: unit 1 on SCSI controller 0
On-board serial ports: 2
On-board bi-directional parallel port
Integral Ethernet: ec0, version 1
Integral ISDN: Basic Rate Interface unit 0, revision 1.0
challenge65 51#
The binaries seem to execute in general, but unfortunately due to the IRIX version there is at least one crucial missing symbol (strlcpy). I am not sure when that came to the IRIX libc, but if after 6.5.22m then some more compatibility library additions might be needed to support the Indy:
Code:
[sgugshell root@challenge65 /]# tdnf install libdicl libdicl-devel gcc gcc-c++ make
ERROR: failed to create instance lock file
Package libdicl is already installed.

Oh excellent, there is hope then! I guess strlcpy came in the next version or two, and I need to do a .22 upgrade :)

Interesting! I’ve been lazily meaning to do some 6.5.22 testing, would love to hear how it goes.

The most immediately useful thing, of course :p

It needs a little help to run (TLS trust store symlink, paths, tdnf install groff), and it isn't anything resembling fast unfortunately, but...
Code:

       high-level S3 commands provided.

   Path Argument Type
Whenever using a command, at least one path argument must be specified.
There are two types of path arguments: LocalPath and S3Uri.

LocalPath: represents the path of a local file or directory. It can be
written as an absolute path or relative path.

[... etc.]
Still kind of neat.

That's great to hear! Do GTK apps work ok if you're in 24bit mode? Or other non-GTK gui apps. As a follow-up I use Python3 for `youtube-dl` :ROFLMAO:

Ah, well, note that it is a Challenge (no graphics). I can certainly try something with remote X if you would like, or alternatively, I have an R5k Indy (with graphics) to try later after it gets some more memory.
