Hello all, I just discovered a very interesting crossover between SGI and IBM. Back in the 1980s IBM made some graphics peripherals for mainframe and RT workstations. The 5080 series. Pretty wild they used a mainframe back end to run CATIA through these boxes with graphical displays and tablets. Even more crazy is that SGI made a software emulator to replace the physical 5080 machine. https://irix7.com/techpubs/007-0841-040.pdf You put an adapter card in a Personal Iris to connect to the mainframe over bus and tag. The rest of the SGI clients used this as a proxy. Anyone have experience or memories of this setup? I suspect there is zero hardware left at this point but the software or even a card for the PI would be a great find.
