FOR SALE (Collection only from Edinburgh, UK, literally asap):

SGI Onyx2 Deskside in good condition (Dual-R12K/400 & Reality graphics): 650 UKP

Full spec as follows (will add pictures shortly when it's light outside):

Dual-R12K/400MHz (8MB L2) CPUs (one node board, leaving one slot free)
1GB RAM (4x 256MB kits, so half the slots are still free)
Reality graphics (GE14-4, 2RM8/64, so 80MB VRAM and 64MB TRAM)
DG5-2 output (2x 13W3, etc.)
Seagate 147GB 15K with IRIX 6.5.30m (full inst with all dev stuff, Nekoware, Blender, etc.)
Maxtor Atlas 15K II, 147GB 15K (misc/backup)
CDROM (4X, but I'll replace this with a 10X DVDROM or something)

Full hinv, extra info, after some pics (the monitor on the piece of wood is resting on a wad of bubblewrap, and when I took these there were two other disks present I was using for sorting out the OS setup):

Also includes: New generic black PS2 kybd & mouse, proper power cable and a 3m or 10m 13W3/13W3 cable (or if preferred a 13W3/VGA adapter + 1m VGA cable).

Optional: Dell 19" 1280x1024 IPS flat panel for +50 (this is what I'm using just now for it)
I can add a second Dell for +75 (ie. comes with another 13W3/VGA adapter + VGA cable)

Upgrades available (extra node board, RAM, gfx, disk, etc.), ask if interested. Many will be much cheaper than shown on my site, roughly half normal cost, eg. extra dual-R12K/400 with 1GB RAM for +395.

Q&A (I figure there might be one or two... :)

Q: 650 UKP? Isn't that kinda cheap?
A: Yes.
Q: Why?
A: I urgently need the space for items coming from a relative's house next month (house clearance).
Q: What would it cost if you weren't in a rush?
A: Probably about 2K+ with a lesser nodeboard.
Q: What is the timeframe for collection?
A: Preferably no later than next Tuesday (30/Mar). After that any collection would either have to be during the first week of May, or more likely the system would just be scrapped for parts.
Q: Can you ship?
A: Alas no, there's no time. The low price is intended to encourage someone to grab a friend or two, jump in a car and come get it pronto.
Q: Surely you'd want to keep it for yourself??
A: I already have a quad-500 IR4. :}
Q: Git.
A: :D

I hope the system can find a new home. Originally someone in mainland Europe was going to buy it for 1500+ last year, but lockdown blech ruined that idea.

If I can spare a moment I'll benchmark the system for my Inventor page since I don't have any numbers atm for Reality gfx.

Ian.

I would buy this in a heartbeat, but the shipping would be a about a billion dollars. Best of luck Ian, hope it works out for you.

Cheers,
Jason.

To be more precise, some basic checking threw up 890 UKP for sea freight from door to port in NYC, while full door to door by Fedex was about 1350 for somewhere "typical" (I used Vegas as a test), so I figure that with some shopping around it would likely land somewhere between the two (WTA is usually cheaper but slow, like 60+ days).

As it happens though, I think I've found a buyer. :)

Well who knows, I may get more in the future, but storage space is going to be a problem for a long time, so probably not anytime soon.

By removing key parts I was able to move the system indoors (honestly quite surprised at how light it is without the PSU, fan tray and main boards, similar to a Tezro; I only left the GE in place), in doing so I discovered one fan on the tray was dodgy, so I've replaced it (the fan is the same model used in Origin200, I had several spares). Also gave it a clean & suchlike on the inside. Funny really, after all these years, this was the first time I've ever taken an Onyx2 apart to any degree. :D

Wish that I was still in the UK to give it a home.. Where in the UK are you located? Perhaps I can have someone fetch it.
