I finally got a PCI card cage for my Octane, so gigabit was the next thing to work on.
There are a couple options for this, but the quickest and easiest seemed to be outlined here:
The first order of business is getting the correct card, a HP NC7770, not a NC7771. Beware, some sellers will advertise a NC7770 but then have small print saying "or similar" and send you a NC7771. This is how I ended up with a stack of NC7771s (which can be reflashed for use in alphas, so all is not lost). I had to find an auction that had a picture of the actual card, it was $17 shipped.
Once you put the card in the system, you simply follow the instructions on the Nekochan post. I've attached a modified
