There's a dual-cpu module '040-2029-002 Rev C' for sale and I'm wondering if it's possible to upgrade a single cpu octane (1) to dual cpu by just removing the old one and plugging in the new dual cpu module?

cheers

I've never seen or heard of a differentiation between single-CPU and Multi-CPU Octane motherboards, It's just the PIMM's that differ, as far as I'm aware.

What type of module is that, as I don't know of any Octane/Octane2 CPU module that has that serial number?

Here are some example of Octane/Octane2 PIMM's from both Ian and Mashek's sites:

thanks irinikus! good to know!

the P/N is what the seller has listed in his offering and is also visible on the aluminum body/heatsink in the photo.
although the module itself might also have a different number.

Yup, easy peasy. Pop the old module off, put the new one on. That's it.
I've done it with singles, dual 300 and dual 600 modules, both ways
