Nikon LS-2000 Film Scanner & IRIX

Hardware Goon
I got the great idea to digitize some of my old film negatives, and thought to myself, what can I use that might also be fun on an SGI?

The Nikon LS-2000 is a Coolscan device that has a SCSI interface, and was sold for use with PC and Mac machines. Connected to the Octane, shows as:

Code:
hinv:
Integral SCSI controller 1: Version QL1040B (rev. 2), single ended
Scanner: unit 2 on SCSI controller 1

With depreciated scan and print services from a stock IRIX install, I wondered, how will I interface with the device to actually use it. That's when I discovered, nestled away in Freeware:
sane-backends-1.0.12 SANE scanner library backends2003-07-01
sane-frontends-1.0.11SANE scanner library frontends2003-07-01
xsane-0.91SANE graphical frontend2003-07-01

Tragically, I don't have any film to scan, it's at Mom's, but the initial tests scanning nothing seem promising.

Would love to hear if anyone has experience using a film scanner in IRIX -- in the mean time, if anyone has questions, feel free to touch base.

(My first post here, used to be active on nekochan ages ago)

I have a CoolScan III (LS-30) and tried years ago to get it working on my SGIs with sane, but all I got was black images. I still have the idea to look into the sane source code to fix the issue. Alas, life got in the way for a few years and I only recently have unpacked my SGIs six years after moving house. Hope to find some time early next year or so to look into it, but I am not expecting to be able to fix it.
