The problem wasn't the code itself but the build scripts calling
There is a saner way of convincing the network stuff to give proper macros and definitions, but I did this because laziness. Feel free to improve.
Note: out of box this builds unexecutable code because
/bin/sh

guesses wrong what we're running. Use --cpu=mips4
or equivalent - the argument gets passed directly to gcc
as -march=whatever
