3D-printed parts for the O2

Now after some months, I finally got my 3D-printed drive sleds. Originally, I extracted these parts from the complete O2 model out of the “IV view” demo.
These parts do fit perfectly but the structure to hold the EMI shield in place is somehow missing, so the shield cannot be used with them.
And yes, the surfaces of the parts don’t look quite well but it’s my first time with 3D-printing and I don’t know, how it can be done better.

Along with the drive trays, I ordered a fan cover and that fits perfectly too but looks a bit ugly because of the surface structure.
And the nose wich is keeping it in place was broken. That should be redesigned in the future before making new prints.
Sadly, there was no Purple color available.

Looking good! I’ve never seen a EMI shield for an O2 drive sled? Was this an O2+ thing?

For finishing your parts, you’ll probably need to apply one of many possible smoothing techniques - tumbling, hand sanding, filling / sanding, multitool smoothing etc. A Maya user I know uses tumbling but a work colleague uses a process consisting of hand dry sanding, filling with model / automotive filler spray primer, dry/wet sanding and then spraying. This way you can achieve a good surface and also have the benefit of near colour match.
Or just use them as is. :) I’d probably leave the drive sleds but finish the psu cover.

Interesting…
All of my O2s had the EMI shield on the drive tray and I’m wondering why the support structure for it is missing in the original model.
And regarding sanding: I tried it by hand but the result wasn’t satisfying and I couldn‘t reach all surfaces. The perfect choice would be a higher resolution, I think.

I'm currently working on a R5k system tray 3d model in inspiration of these projects and my own o2 system tray getting destroyed in shipping. It is a work in progress so it doesn't fully line up.

Edit: I made an updated version that will not destroy system boards. But I have not verified if it works due to my printer being to small to print this. (New file attached)
